about

Intermezzo for Two Percussionists features instruments of both definite and indefinite pitch, yet the marimba and vibraphone occupy the spotlight for the bulk of the work. Motives are exchanged and developed through a collaborative interplay which involves all of the instruments. While significant timbral, registral, dynamic and metric departures assist in the development and the progress of the work, a brief return to the opening material serves to emphasize those departures while reminding us that it is, in fact, and Intermezzo after all. The work was composed in 2001 for the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble. --David Weisberg
